 How To Measure

You have been shopping for your perfect dress and have realised “it's the one” but can't make it into an A&F store to get measured, please don’t stress… we have streamlined the process so that we can teach you how you can find the perfect fit, from the comfort of home!

It's surprisingly easy to measure yourself at home with a few basic tools. Read the how-to instructions below for essential tips and tricks.
(You can use these tips to measure for bridal, bridesmaid dresses, party looks, mother of the bride or groom and pretty much anything!)

Bridal and bridesmaids designers each have unique size charts exclusive to their individual brand and collections. With this in mind they are not the same as comparing to each other or especially when comparing to your average street sizes.

Most designer size charts you will find run smaller than street clothing. Please do not be alarmed if you fall into a smaller or larger size than you are accustomed to. You will need us to take your professionally acquired measurements and apply these to your individual gown's relevant size chart, and together we can select your appropriate gown size.

Our gowns are not made to measure and do not take into consideration every specific measurements, unless stipulated on your contract at the time of placing your special order with us. If you are between sizes on the size chart we can discuss the best option for sizing up or down depending on your gowns fabrics and fit. It is easy to take in a gown and usually harder or impossible to let out due to the minimal seam allowances that some designers leave in the gowns.

We can discuss with you, our recommendation in a size to choose however, the size you wish to purchase is ultimately your decision. We ask that you choose your size carefully as you may not have time to order another gown or additional fabric at a later stage, if it is too small.

Most gowns will require custom alteration once they arrive, to contour your body in the perfect places, so please do not be surprised if your gown requires fine tuning during alterations. It is extremely rare that a gown would ever fit perfectly.

Step By Step: How To Measure

Helpful Tips

Stand comfortably and straight with your heels together and equal weight on both feet (confidently rested)

Put your arms down at your side resting easily (relax)

Relax your stomach muscles (honesty is the best policy)

Bust, Waist, Hip and Hollow to Hem are required to select a size

Measurements should be against the bodys skin you may wear undergarments like a thin bra or bralette to keep your bust position how they should sit in the gown. As well as any shapewear or slips that will be worn with the dress during the event (but this is not essential).

Keep a finger behind the tape measure when reading the size. The tape should be snug but not too tight it bites the skin and not too loose the tape measure does not stay where you are measuring, without two hands.

For ease of concerns with your measurements we advise a tight and a loose measurement from all DIY measurements to confirm differences in size options and this usually is between 1cm to 2.5 cm’s difference in comparison. (For example hips tight 100cm hips loose 102cm)

Hollow to Hem can be taken in bare feet but please advise how your measurement was taken, as this does not take into consideration your chosen heel height. We do advise you wear shoes with the same heel height being worn at your event to obtain this measurement to ensure your gown is never too short. If your overall “Hollow to Hem” measurement means you require extra length. Extra length adds 1-6 inches to gown length, depending on the designer.

Are you pregnant OR planning a pregnancy? Always make your consultant aware if you anticipate this. Your growth and future size needs to be considered for the time frame of your event to ensure your gown is ordered appropriately.

ALWAYS NOTE: The size chosen is your decision but we are able to provide tips and advice when you contact us with your measurements. Please include your name, event date, and style of gown with any questions you may have?
